On Tire Blowouts and Tragedy
Many of our posts for the Safe-T-Plus blog tend to focus on the RV lifestyle, and we often tend to take a fun, upbeat approach to things. Today, though, please bear with us while we broach a very serious subject that’s at the heart of what Safe-T-Plus is all about: accident prevention. Though we all know that travel of any sort carries with it a certain amount of risk and that serious accidents happen all the time, none of us ever expects it to happen. So when something tragic does occur on the road, it’s a wake-up call for all of us. On October 2, a horrific accident involving a collision between a church bus, a tractor trailer, and an SUV occurred in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Eight people were killed and fourteen were injured. Investigators initially stated that the chain of events that triggered the tragedy may have been caused by a tire blowout on the bus. At a later news conference, the wording was changed from “blowout” to “tire malfunction.” Whatever the specific nature of the tire’s failure, the accident is a somber reminder of the type of worst case scenario that can occur when something goes wrong with a vehicle. We’re conditioned to hearing about accidents caused by poor choices — driving while impaired, road rage, texting while driving — but most drivers seldom reflect on the fact that something as simple as a malfunction — tire blowouts, etc.– can cause catastrophic results. Anytime such a senseless tragedy occurs, amid investigations, the recovery of those who were injured, and the ongoing grief of those who lost loved ones, the question arises, “How do we keep this from happening again?” While there is a certain amount of risk inherent every time you get behind the wheel of any vehicle, Safe-T-Plus believes that its our job to reduce that risk as much as possible. Safe-T-Plus has the utmost confidence that its product gets the job done when protecting its users from tire blowouts. It’s designed to allow the driver to maintain control in the event of just such an occurrence. We at Safe-T-Plus would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy and condolences to those affected by the tragic accident in Tennessee.
