We hear all the time how quickly accidents can happen while on the road. Split-second decisions can change the outcome entirely — for better or for worse.
This video out of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, from earlier this week illustrates just how fast everything can go wrong. A nearby driver with a dash cam was able to record this motorhome crash, caused by a failure in the front left tire. 69-year-old Royce Denmon of Kilgore, Texas, was driving the motorhome at the time.
Thankfully, no one was seriously injured in the accident, even after the motorhome hit the cable barriers in the median and skid onto the other side of the interstate.
We clearly see what can happen when a tire fails — and, in an instant, the driver can lose control. As frightening as it is, incidents like these do serve as important reminders to those driving motorhomes.
Ask yourself: How would I react in that situation?
Knowing the proper response to a sudden blowout can save your life and the lives of others. We have to go against our instincts, which tell us to slam on the brakes and jerk the wheel to counter steer. For vehicles big and small, this causes a loss of control and tipping over. This can cause smaller vehicles to roll.
Many (but not all) blowouts can be prevented by maintaining proper tire pressure. It’s important for drivers to take every precaution available to prevent and manage tire failure. Besides knowing how to physically react, what else can motorhome drivers do?
Rely on the security of Safe-T-Plus.
